Amateur naturalist and collector of Coleoptera, he passed the latter part of his life in New York City. He was a member of the Academy, and a note in the Minutes announces his death and speaks with enthusiasm of Guex' interest in entomology. At that time his donations to the Entomological Collections were mentioned and over a period of years he had added materially to them. Overview
Joseph Mellick Leidy (1823-1891), one of the great American scientists of the 19th century, possessed a vast knowledge of the natural world. Best known as the Father of American vertebrate paleontology, he also pioneered the fields of parasitology and protozoology, and was the preeminent anatomist of his time. Scope and Contents
Foulke, an attorney and philanthropist of Philadelphia, was a man of wide interests. He concerned himself vary seriously and prison reform, was instrumental in launching in Artic expedition, and discovered, excavated, and gave to the Academy the skeleton of a Hadrosaurus.
In this collection is a typescript of sections of his diary which relate to Joseph Leidy, and a letter of presentation from E.A. Andrews, 1942.
